A Bad Apple

It mocks me, this apple. I'm gonna eat it! It took me alllll day to create this piece of garbage. Golden Open acrylics on watercolor paper. Primed with tinted gesso. I like using the paper. It's cheap.

I actually ended up swiping a fan brush across it out of frustration and anger which is why it's so soft. Says something about how bad it was originally that this improved it.

Fruit, class project

Last project from Intro to Drawing and Painting class. This took 4 hours. Oils.

Things I notice as an amateur below. If I had oils I'd fix this. I'll look back one day and see a dozen other issues.

* Needs more contrast in shadows and highlights.
*Edge of one apple needs to blended some where it meets the other apple.
*Shadow of apple on right is slightly off.

A Little Pumpkin

One to make myself feel better after the hibiscus disaster. Ten minutes using different pastel pencils on plain computer paper. I see the stem perspective doesn't match the pumpkin.

Hibiscus In Algae

Yep, you when WIN some, you lose some. This one is a loss.

White Flower in Orange Vase, Complete

Adjusted several things after WetCanvas critique. Straightened neck, brightened buds, added orangish background, and adjusted vase shadow.

White Hibiscus

Originally acrylic on canvas, basic underpainting. Added 2 coats of Golden pastel ground and completed in pastels. That was an experiment but I like the technique. I like how the rough ground forces me to paint looser.

Awaiting feedback from WetCanvas re: shadow on table and blues behind buds. Corrected version below.

Corrected petal shades and vase shadow area.

Hibiscus

WIP (work in progress). Faber-Castell pencils, blue Canson MT paper. Using ref photo off Pixabay. This one is tedious but satisfying. I'm learning a lot.

September 2013, quick sketching

Learning to sketch quickly with less rational thought and more just what I see.

Pastel Pencils

Playing with my pastel pencils.

Second art class. August 3013. We applied a heavy coat of charcoal to paper then removed the highlights. This was very challenging, like doing it all backwards. Cat helped me with the leaves. She made them look like leaves rather than blobs. I was drawing LEAVES. She drew shapes and values.

Art Lessons

Started art lessons last night at Crealde School of Art with Cat Hempel. I learned so much! We all drew our hands with a #2 pencil.
